My Story

How I became crazy about sleep

Meet Dani

My love affair with sleep began as a teenager and carried on strong well into my twenties. It evolved from a casual fling, to a deep rooted love affair when I was diagnosed with depression. It became my most powerful tool for managing my mental well-being and was one of my most valuable relationships. When I was expecting my first baby I had no idea what to expect. I was worried about how I was going to balance being a new mom with getting the sleep I knew I needed. With a history of depression, being well-rested had always been a high priority for me. But how was I going to prioritise my sleep needs alongside motherhood?

We needed a plan, and help, on how to balance sleep and mommyhood. We worked with a sleep consultant when our oldest was only 3 weeks old. We wanted to be educated on the importance of sleep, and how we could begin to slowly teach our son a foundation of healthy sleep habits right from the start. At this age, we were not sleep training, rather arming ourselves with a holistic toolbelt of resources to encourage independent sleep...all while enjoying those newborn snuggles! Our son, began sleeping through the night at 8 weeks old and we've been able to maintain his love of sleep ever since! #nailedit

Fast forward to our second son... #didn'tnailit

You always know your children are going to be different, but that doesn't really set in until you have more than one. I figured we had the tools we needed to set our youngest up with a foundation of healthy sleep since we had done so well with our first. We did all the same things but his sleep wasn't coming into place the same way it did with our oldest. 8 weeks past, 3 months...6 months...and he still was not sleeping through the night. I was in denial. I needed help. I needed my sleep back. We hired a sleep consultant when our youngest was 6.5 months old. He was sleeping through the night within 2 days.

To say I'm a believer in the importance of sleep is an understatement. It has had such a powerful impact on my life for many years and remains an extremely high priority for me. Being educated in this field and certified to support families is so rewarding. My experience teaching my sons the values of sleep has been strikingly different and my relationships with my sleep consultants has also been different. My relationship with you will be unique and I look forward to meeting you!

Sleep well, Dani
